  • Exide Industries, Amara Raja Batteries

21 Jun 2022 , 10:10AM The lead prices have dropped ~17% in last 3 three months, on back of slowdown in global auto sales. This would benefit battery companies in India, where demand for batteries is robust, for both OEM and replacement markets. Lead batteries are key raw materials and has affected operating margins for battery companies such as Exide Ind. and Amara Raja Batteries, over the last few quarters. We expect the drop in lead prices to improve profitability margins. Also, the valuations of both companies are at historically lows, with Amara Raja and Exide Ind. trading at P/E of 10.6x and 8x FY24E earnings estimates respectively. We recommend buy on both stocks on improving profitability margins and attractive valuations.
