Facts Corner
- Pillar: Disability
In December 2015, Central government announced the change in nomenclature for person’s with disability to ‘Divyang’ meaning Divine Body, instead of ‘Viklang’ (Handicap).
https://yourstory.com/2017/12/india-disability-facts/amp - Pillar: LGBTQIA+
In 1999, Kolkata hosted India’s first Gay Pride Parade. The parade, with only 15 attendees, was named Calcutta Rainbow Pride.
(https://www.deccanherald.com/specials/history-of-the-pride-movement-in-india-742950.html) - Pillar: Gender Diversity
In 2011, the disparity in access to education between genders was most visible in India's childhood literacy rates – 82% of boys were literate while only 65% of girls could read and write. Statistics show that around 10% more girls were enrolled in secondary school in India by 2019 when compared to 2011. Worldwide, women are more educated today than at any point in history, but they are still not as educated as men.

CSR Events - PRIDE Month | Overview |
Their Story, Our Voice | Stories are the most powerful way to help the voiceless! The transgender community are one of the most marginalized communities. But their stories are as powerful as ours, if not more. BNP Paribas ISPL volunteers helped the beneficiaries of this community share their story with the world. Volunteers connected with the beneficiaries over multiple sessions to hear and help transcribe their life journey into stories. |
Each 1 Teach 1 | BNP Paribas Volunteers connected with members of the Transgender community and taught them basic computer skills such as MS Excel, Word and email etiquette that will help them organize their work, career and life, |
Career Guidance session | Individuals from the LGBTQIA+ community face many hurdles and discriminations while working. Due to this, lot of them find difficulty maintaining a steady career. HR team of BNP Paribas organized a career guidance session to help them with certain HR tips and techniques (eg - resume building, how to attend interviews, commonly asked questions etc) to support the community. |
