Strictly follow the IT change management process while implementing IT related changes

July 27, 2023

Our Information Technology (IT) team is implementing various changes in the organisation to empower and enable Sherus to achieve Vison 2025. Where there is a change, there should be change management. Change management is the process of planning, implementing and monitoring changes in an organisation. Change management is a critical part of managing IT operational risk as it ensures that changes are implemented effectively and efficiently to meet Sharekhan’s business requirements. However, it has been observed that many times IT changes do not go through the change management process. That is why, today we would like to share with you the best practices of change management.

Follow all the steps of change management whenever you are adding, modifying or removing a production or DR computing environment configuration item including all hardware, software and facilities (electricity, moves etc) that are relevant to the running and support of production.

Best practices of change management for IT related changes

  • All changes to production require a change record raised within the ITSM Toolset IT Desk.
  • All changes must be fully approved prior to implementation except for retrospective changes.
  • Changes performed to fix or prevent a significant production failure may be recorded after the event. These change records must reference a related incident ticket where applicable.
  • Changes to Production must only be deployed by production-facing teams. Therefore, Production teams are responsible for creating the change record for implementation.
  • Non-production teams must request a change to the Production team via a service request.
  • Evidence of user acceptance testing/pre-testing is considered outside the scope of the change management process.
  • Change records must not contain any confidential details, such as passwords or client access information etc.
